Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Carry Comp In-depth
Nov 2, 2024
This is a long-form, in-depth review on the Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact Performance Center Carry Comp. SKU is 13989. It is one of the nicest compact pistols on the market this year and will definitely be the gun to beat next year. For my review, I used the polymer frame compact pistol size.
Whether you are a seasoned shooter, or a new shooter picking up your first firearm, this is a fantastic choice! Please feel free to ask any questions, comment discuss the pistol and let me know your thoughts and impressions on the gun! Are there any improvements I can make to my videos? What would you like me to do next? My goal is to hit 3k subs by December, so thank you for helping me make this happen!
So let’s briefly describe the pros and cons of the pistol:
Fantastic flat-face trigger, a super crisp break, and not a lot of overtravel. It is one of the best triggers I have experienced on a striker-fired firearm. Where I find room for improvement would be a more positive trigger reset, that is a little more tactile. It is really good for what it is, but it could always be better! I feel like 90% of people who shoot the pistol would never even notice. The reset is short, I just wish it was a bit more audible for that happy click on release.
Ergonomics. This this feels awesome in the hand, very aggressive texturing on the grips, and you can change the backstrap to suit your style and fit the firearm to your hand perfectly. Need a thinner grip, a palm swell or thicker grip? not a problem. The memory pads are top notch and are textured so you can really clamp down and dial it in to suit your preferences.
Barrel length is 4.22 inches, the last 1/2 inch or so is the backbored chunk port. The upside is the gun looks increadable with the machining, and the porting works really well. By backboring the barrel to the beginning of the port, it allows several things to happen. 1) The gas pressure levels equalize behind the projectile which ensure consistent velocity. 2) The back boring prevents spalling, or bits of the projectile shaving off and being sent out the port. It happens with ported guns from time to time, but not this one thankfully. 3) Reduces muzzle flip and redirects the gas out the top and sides. It also has a subtle geometric pattern cut that directs the gasses forward and away from the sights, and inside the chamber end of the slide it features a gas redirection cut that directs chamber gasses away from any optic you have mounted on the platform.
Optics ready out of the box. My pistol came with 7 optics plates and a variety of hardware to cover probably 85% of everything on the market. I am not the most familiar with all the variety of optics available currently, but chances are unless your running something exotic, this will acomidate it. To the best of my knowledge the only optic to fit without a plate is a Holosun SCS MP2 model.
Sights out of the box are quite excellent, tritium front and blacked out rear sight with a cocking shelf built in. The sights are not optic compatible, so for a co witness you will have to add taller sights.
Is the gun left hand compatible? yep, if god hates you, you can still enjoy the pistol. Ambi slide release, swappable mag release is fairly uncommon, and this pistol really does acomidate the widest possible audience.
Overall impressions after 1,000 rounds? Truly a phenomenal pistol all the way around with a few drawbacks.
Cons
Not optic compatible sights, the CORE optic plates are polymer and not aluminum or steel.
Trigger reset could be more tactile
In conclusion:
If you are looking for an out of the box excellent pistol, this is a fantastic choice. The machine work is truly beautiful to behold, it’s easy to operate and keep clean, adaptable to a variety of shooters and superbly accurate with great ergos.
Ultimatly I did not keep mine after the review, however it is with it’s new owner and he couldn’t be happier.
